Founded in the 1970s by Melvin Smirk after the closure of Rank Strand's Lowton office, the company initially operated under the name Northern Stage Services. The name persisted until 2015 when Northern Stage acquired Lancelyn Theatre Supplies, resulting in a merger and the establishment of the new entity, National Stage Technology Ltd, or NStage. In 2017, Torpedo Factory Group Ltd acquired National Stage Technology Ltd, leading to a renaming as TFG Stage Technology Ltd, with StageSuperstore as the prominent side brand.
